Cash deposits in respect of general average are held in a specially designated deposit account.
After the general average adjustment is completed, the proportion due from you on a pro rata basis will be taken from the account. The balance left in the account, plus any accrued interest will be returned to you after you present the original deposit receipt for cancellation.
The length of period for which the deposits may be held will depend on the size and complexity of the particular casualty. Where a major casualty is involved the adjustment is
unlikely to be completed in less than a year after the adventure ends.
In appropriate circumstances and subject to satisfactory proof, a deposit may be wholly or partly refunded if it is established that the cargo is in fact insured or is badly damaged / a total loss.
A deposit receipt is issued to interests once the funds are cleared in our bank account.
